Hi, this is Amira Asmodea and today we will learn a little more about Samhain, from @WiccanTips on Instagram
Samhain is the most important festival of Celtic origin of the pagan period in Europe until its conversion to Christianity, in which the night of October 31 to November 1 served as a celebration of the end of the harvest season in the Celtan culture and was considered the "Celtic New Year", which began with the dark season. It is both a transition party (the passage from one year to another) and an opening to the other world. Its etymology is Gaelic and means "end of summer".
Today Samhain continues to be celebrated by followers of neo-pagan religious movements, such as Wiccan and Druidism.

The Celtic calendar divided the year into two parts, the dark half began in the month of Samonios (October-November lunation), and the light half, from the month of Giamonios (April-May lunation). The year was considered to begin with the dark half; thus, Samonios became the Celtic New Year. Each month began with the full moon, and the New Year's celebration took place during the "three nights of Samonians," the closest full moon between the autumnal equinox and the winter solstice. Full moons marked the midpoint of each half of the year during which festivals were held. Coligny's calendar marks the moon of midsummer; however, it omits the midwinter one. The calendar was designed to align the lunations with the agricultural cycle, and the exact astronomical position of the Sun was considered less important.
In medieval Ireland, Samhain remained the main holiday, celebrated with a large assembly at the royal court of Tara, lasting three nights, consistent with Gallic testimony.
