My Own Rowan Garland

I’ve been wanting to make a rowan garland for ages but I always seemed to miss the boat on the berries! This year, though, I accomplished one of my witch goals and remembered - but only because I noticed how early they have appeared. They usually herald the change from summer to autumn for me but this year it seems like they want to enjoy the summer months, too!

The rowan tree is considered sacred. Rowan wood is often used for wands, athames, and other ritual tools, and the dark five-pointed star found on its red berry makes a tiny pentagram.

Strongly associated with protection, rowan trees are often planted outside homes to guard against evil, or in graveyards to protect the spirits of the dead.

Hanging these garlands is a great way to celebrate the turning wheel and is super easy. All you need is a length of thread, needle, and about two sprays of berries. The easiest way to thread them is through the pentagram on the bottom up through the top.
